Operations Director: Joe Boken About Joe: Joe is a family man with an affectionately termed “volleyball problem.” A lifelong volleyball player, Joe grew up in the sands of Manhattan Beach, California, playing and watching the game. He eventually moved off the sand and onto asphalt and indoor hard courts. He played middle school, high school, club and collegiate volleyball. While in college at Loyola Marymount University, he started coaching, organizing volleyball groups, and running volleyball events. Post college, Joe tried his hand at competitive beach volleyball, winning small tournaments here and there, but finding his niche in running events and coaching. Joe’s ability to organize and operate grassroots volleyball events led him to positions working for grassroots volleyball organizations where he eventually caught the eye of the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP). While at the AVP, Joe directed the AVPNext program, a national developmental program. In this position Joe promoted and operated the USAV Beach Junior Olympics, USAV Beach High Performance Camp, and the AVPNext National Championships. Joe is an active developer of volleyball and looks forward to growing the sport through quality operations management and improving opportunities for all players throughout the region including boy’s, beach and grass volleyball events. Joe holds a Master’s Degree in Education from National University in Los Angeles. Joe is a nationally certified beach volleyball referee and coach. He lives in Vancouver, WA with his wife, two children and two dogs. Find Joe on the trails with his family helping his children learn about the world! |
