juniors: choosing a club

Picking a club is a family decision and takes some research.  Although they must abide by general CEVA rules, each club is a little different in the way they run their organization and train their athletes.

Some of the common questions to ask a club director are:

  • What is your club philosophy? (i.e.: To win? To improve? To have fun?)
  • What age groups do you have teams for?
  • How far will we travel to play?
  • When and where will practices be?
  • What will the expenses be?
  • Do they have an itemization of what is being paid by your fees? Some clubs charge one fee upfront for the season and some charge and initial fee with monthly payments. Some clubs use fund-raisers to fund their teams and some teams use a combination of the above.

Choosing a volleyball club is serious business and a family decision. It is a commitment in time and money as well as individual commitment to a club for the duration of the season. Spending a little time researching your options and opportunities may save you from a frustrating season.
